Jennifer Carroll - Elite Lawyer 2025

Partner

Jennifer Carroll has been an attorney with Newland & Newland, LLP since 2012 and due to her exceptional legal abilities and her tremendous success in the courtroom, became a partner in 2022.

Jennifer is a skilled consumer and real estate litigation attorney who represents individuals, homeowners, and businesses in complex legal disputes, foreclosure defense, probate and trust estate issues. With a strategic mindset and through tenacious advocacy, Jennifer helps clients protect their rights and interests in matters involving real estate transactions, foreclosure defense, fraud, contract disputes, and consumer protection claims. Jennifer has successfully handled cases involving deceptive lending practices, title disputes, construction defects, and breaches of contract.

As a major part of her real estate litigation practice and for over 13 years, Jennifer has advocated for homeowners with an extensive focus on foreclosure defense, mortgage litigation, and consumer protection. She works closely with clients to explore every available option — from loan modifications and repayment plans to litigation strategies and bankruptcy alternatives — ensuring each case receives a personalized, strategic approach. With a deep understanding of Illinois foreclosure laws and the local court systems, she has built a strong reputation for protecting clients’ rights and helping families stay in their homes.

Known for her compassionate advocacy and attention to detail, Jennifer has defended well over a thousand homeowners against foreclosure actions filed by major banks and mortgage servicers throughout the state of Illinois. Jennifer practices in all counties of the Chicago area. Whether negotiating with lenders or representing clients in court, she is committed to achieving fair outcomes and restoring financial stability for families in crisis.

Jennifer has helped countless homeowners save their homes by mounting a strong and timely foreclosure defense. After reviewing the lender’s filings, she often can identify errors and gaps in the documentation, including issues related to standing and compliance with the Illinois Mortgage Foreclosure Law. Even in cases where a judgment has already been entered against the homeowner, she is often able to vacate judgments and open the door for meaningful negotiation, leading a workable loan modification resulting in the dismissal of the foreclosure case. What began as a seemingly impossible situation ended with the client remaining in their home. Through aggressive litigation, Jennifer has even been successful in the very difficult task of saving homes for homeowners even after the auction.

Jennifer believes that every client deserves clear communication, honest advice, and a strong advocate in their corner. She works with clients to understand their goals and develop tailored strategies that achieve favorable results — whether through litigation, mediation, or settlement.

In addition, Jennifer is an experienced probate and trust administration attorney dedicated to helping families navigate the complexities of estate settlement with clarity, compassion, and confidence. Jennifer works to guide executors, trustees, and beneficiaries through every stage of the process, she ensures that each matter is handled efficiently and with the utmost care. She takes pride in providing clear communication, responsive service, and practical solutions that protect both family harmony and financial integrity.

Through her Trust and Probate Administration practice Jennifer recently resolved a trust dispute between beneficiaries by focusing on clear communication, transparency, and a structured negotiation process. Each party had differing expectations about distributions and the trustee’s duties, which had led to growing distrust. By reviewing the trust documents, working closely with all beneficiaries’ counsel and clarifying the legal framework that governed the Trust, she facilitated a series of discussions that allowed the beneficiaries to reach a mutually acceptable agreement on distributions and the finalization of the administration. In the end, the dispute was settled without litigation, preserving both the Trust’s assets and avoiding further damage to the family’s relationships.

Outside the courtroom, Jennifer is an active member of the legal community serving on the board of the Association of Women Attorneys of Lake County, as the former chairman of the Lake County Bar Association Foreclosure Help Desk, and as a current co-chairman of the Lake County Bar Association Debtor/Creditor Committee. She frequently speaks at bar association events and seminars including the 2025 Lake County Bar Association Real Estate & Trust and Estates Joint Conference and the 2021 Lake County Bar Association Real Estate Conference. Jennifer also cares deeply about preparing our next generation of attorneys to be able to achieve excellence in the field and has served as a judge for mock appellate arguments presented by first year law students at the Loyola School of Law.
