Hundreds of Millions of Eggs Recalled Amid Salmonella Concerns

Due to salmonella outbreak, more than 206 million eggs were recalled by their producer, Rose Acre Farm. Salmonella, a type of food poisoning, can be quite dangerous for victims, especially the elderly, young children, and individuals with compromised immune systems. In rare cases, it can be deadly.

If you have eggs that were recalled in your home, get rid of them or return them to the store where your purchased them to have your money refunded. Under no circumstances should you eat them or serve them to another person or an animal. To see if the eggs in your refrigerator were recalled, check their package to see their plant number and Julian date range. The plant number on the recalled eggs is P-1065 and the date range is 011 through 102. If you or your child became ill after consuming eggs from this batch, you could be entitled to monetary compensation for your damages.

The Biggest Egg Recall Since 2010

This recall is the largest egg recall in the United States since 2010. Rose Acre Farm is located in Hyde County, North Carolina, and produces 2.3 million eggs from three million hens every day. The recalled eggs were sold under nine distinct brand names in various stores, including Walmart and Food Lion. They were also sold to restaurants, including Waffle House. They were sold in nine states along the East Coast. 22 illnesses were reported in conjunction with this outbreak.

Recognizing Salmonellosis Symptoms and Staying Safe

Salmonella poisoning is also known as salmonellosis. It is one of the most common types of food poisoning. When a victim contracts salmonella poisoning, symptoms typically appear within 12 to 72 hours. Symptoms include:

  • Fever;
  • Chills;
  • Vomiting;
  • Abdominal pain; and
  • Diarrhea.

Additionally, the salmonella strain identified as the strain responsible for the egg outbreak, Salmonella Braenderup, can put victims at risk of suffering endocarditis, arthritis, and arterial infections from the organism entering their bloodstreams and producing these additional conditions.

Salmonellosis is particularly dangerous for young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. When an individual in one of these categories experiences salmonellosis symptoms, he or she should receive medical attention as soon as possible to ensure the infection is treated properly. For an adult with a healthy immune system, salmonellosis symptoms should subside within a week. Patients should rest and make sure they keep themselves hydrated to recover from salmonellosis.
